Part 2: An Interview with Tyler Bedley, Student Nurse and #Gales4Nurses Grand Prize Winner
YOU'VE HEARD TYLER'S STORY, BUT NOW YOU'LL GET TO KNOW HER ON A MORE PERSONAL LEVEL. MEET TYLER BEDLEY: PCT AND STUDENT NURSE.
Now for some more fun questions. You said you’re a night person now, were you a morning person before making the switch?
Yes, I was. I used to be fully morning shift. I swam in college for my first year. I swam for 14 years, made it to division one swimming, so I was always up at 3 in the morning to go get into a cold pool. I was very much a morning person growing up, but when I switched my major to nursing I had to stop swimming because I just couldn’t do it all. We were practicing 20 hours a week. I decided that nursing was my route for the rest of my life, so I was going to stay there. Swimming didn’t have that long term goal. I started staying up until like 2 or 3am and getting up at 10 or 11am and all of a sudden I became a night person. So I was like hmm, I wonder what the night shift is like. Started working it not very long after it and realized it was my thing.
What is something you can’t make it through a shift without?
My STAND+ for sure. I tell all of my coworkers about them when they complain about their foot pain. My water bottle. My badge reel. On my badge reel I have a little hand sanitizer on it, so I always have hand sanitizer with me. And hand lotion, because my hands get really dry.
What are your favorite snacks to have at work?
Sunchips, protein bars, and Alani Nus, which are energy drinks.
So if Alani Nu is your drink of choice to get you through a shift, what is your drink of choice to wind down after a shift?
I drink chamomile tea or green tea, which still has caffeine, but my body runs on caffeine. I can’t sleep without it sometimes, which is weird because you think it’d just keep me up. I also will have a glass of milk with my breakfast when I come home from work.
Last question. What is your favorite quote?
“Remember why you started.”
